What are hems? How can they affect a garment's appearance?
Hems are like the edge of a piece of cloth or clothing that has been turned under and sewn. A hem can effect a garment a lot, lets say that you are trying to make a pair of pants and you don't hem the bottom of them they can look like the right side of the picture and if they are hemmed they will look like the left side. Hemming is really important because it can secure the bottom and it will look nicer.
