Today, my class had a guest speaker, Jill Naughton, come in and talk about the private school Johnson & Wales College. You can find this college located in Providence, North Carolina, Denver and Charlotte. JWU has a different education than other schools, but i am sure there are similar places that teach the same way, but JWU has a hands on education. Johnson & Wales was opened up in 1914 and it has 44 programs, in 18 countries. there are 3,000 campus sites that you can find. You can find many different programs and majors at this college it is just awesome. If you are a junior in high school like i am, you will still be able to apply now, and when you apply they will grant you a scholarship.

Function and design are two key components when it comes to prototyping. The only thing that i think that's important and i would put first is function, then i would put design after. There might be a chance that you make a design but it can't be used because the function of it sucks. Sometimes the design and function of it can work great. The video i watched of function and design helped me a lot because my group product is based on this and we already made prototypes and tested them and the design is great and the function is amazing.

I learned that most of the clothing that we buy and wear at very low costs sometimes can  be made by workers, mostly women and can be payed pennies a day for what they make. The article that i read, i learned that some women were trying to form a group to fight for higher wages, instead of winning they got taken to a separate room and were beaten. Learning about this makes me really sad because how are we supposed to have equality and rights to work, then have other places around the world not have this at all, this makes me want to fight for them because its not fair. reading about this makes me really think differently about fashion and how it's produced. i really think this is a huge problem that needs to be changed, and the we as consumers have a big responsibility towards this because we keep going to the places that sell things for less and give those factories more power to keep abusing their business just for the money.

"Black Friday" wasn't originally for the sales after thanksgiving. It was on September 24, 1869 when the financial crisis happened,the U.S. gold market crashed. Two financiers, Jay Gould and Jim Fisk worked together and bought as much gold and hoped to bring up the price an d get some profit out of it. They didn't realize that it would finally unravel  and send the stock market into a free fall and everyone being left with bankruptcy. The story we hear now for "Black Friday" is  the most inaccurate version but it's always good to learn something new. I honestly think that back then it was a bad thing considering the history behind it, but now i don't think it is, sometimes it can become chaotic and dangerous which i think is kind of scary because there are some teenagers or children out that late and they can get hurt. there were a few times i was involved in black friday but i personally don't like it.

 Short hair is becoming more popular lately, and i am not saying this just because, the only reason i bring this up is that i just recently cut my hair this short like in the picture of Lucy Hale. Short hair is amazing, it feels great, especially when its easier to maintain and cutting off all the dead hair because i bleached my hair then put the color purple in my hair and went back to black and you can imagine how ugly it felt. When i cut my hair, it felt so much better and it feels like a fresh start because i had the same long hair and haircut since freshman year so i'm like you know what  i need to cut it but i want something different and honestly it was the best decision i made only for $15. so if you ever want to cut your hair, don't be afraid of what others think and be a risk taker like i was when i decided to get a haircut.  I learned that when you make a product you need to make sure that every detail is perfect because in the end you will have to sign that everything is the way its supposed  to be. To get the best quality and materials, you can't leave out any detail of how you want the product and you might have to be willing to pay more for a manufacturer that has better knowledge of making it. When you start making a product and its out there it would be a good idea to get it patented because some makeup company or stranger might take credit for the work, when you go to get a attorney you have to pitch the product to them before they can patent the product.

I think fashion houses are behind on sustainability because they think we want the latest trends now and fast and they weren't ready for change just yet because they are afraid it wont succeed. In the article i read, it says most people would rather buy a $15 shirt instead of a $46 shirt because its way to expensive when we can get a shirt just like that. I honestly don't think it will ever be solved as a problem because sustainability scares some of the big fashion houses, probably because they don't think it successful like i said before.🏪💰 The fashion houses probably don't want to spend more money then they already do.

The only thing is..... i am afraid of being judged by millions of people around the world, i have stage fright and it sucks. I celebrate Halloween every year, this year i'm going to dress up like i always have. last year i was batman and a prisoner, in my freshman year i was a nerd. i haven't exactly chose a costume yet but i think i'm going to be a cat because cats are cute and it really is a last minute thing, don't judge me because we all have been in this situation where we procrastinate lol. I remember in my freshman year i didn't have a costume so i threw together a black skirt, black and gray flannel, pink plaid socks, black vans and fake glasses with white tape in the middle i even added freckles and curled my hair. so if i had some advice for a diy costume look to see what you have in your closet and go buy what you need if your missing something that isn't really expensive. I think halloween is the time to express who you really are s  go buy that costume that represents you or be creative and make your own costume.

Fashion houses in Turkey use children for child labor and were told if they didn't work they couldn't live. the crew that went to turkey talked to some children and were told that they want to go to school but can't because they have no choice. The parents never wanted their children to work but they were given no choice and they are scared for their children. when they were inside the factories they found out that when the auditers come, they hide the children so they don't get shut down and this will go on forever because the brands that get the clothes will never get suspicous.

I think sometimes fashion has to break fashion to redefine the definition  of it. The fashion designers that are behind the change for vulgar fashion are actually really smart because vulgarity shouldn't be a problem. I believe that fashion is in the beauty of our eyes because fashion is just every where and obviously we can't walk around naked. Vulgar fashion is just offensive in many ways  but i actually kinda like that fashion week is accepting vulgar clothes because that means others will wear it and win't get criticized for it.

Cover Girl's first male ambassador

Cover girl is a big part of the cosmetic industry because it is one of the go to  makeup suppliers. The fact that this kid, Charles who is only 17  became male ambassador for cover girl is just amazing. I read some of the comments at the bottom of the blog, and it disgusts me how judgmental society is because others were shaming him for actually wearing makeup and being on cover girl. Charles is doing exactly one thing he wants to do, that is to just inspire others and say "hey makeup isn't just for girls" and if you go back in history Egyptians wore it for years. He became successful at the age of 17 and it is just amazing.

   A fashion job to consider is a fashion photographer, also known as a commercial photographer. Their job is to take pictures of the garments and accessories that an individual company designed and what the model is wearing. A fashion photographer earns between $20,000 and $45,000 a year but if you are just starting out and have a little less experience you earn as much as $16,000 a year, but if you are experienced you earn as much as $65,000. For self employed photographers you need a  portfolio of your camera skills and you need to show proof of technical skills, if i were to choose this job i would show proof by sayin i went to SVCTE and took photo but i am taking fashion.

 Another job you could find in the fashion industry is obviously a designer. a fashion designer also known as an accessory designer (depending on the type of product) they design new accessories and garments. they are responsible for analyzing every detail. a fashion designer earns around $40,000 to $90,000 a year. Do you think that the setting of the show with the computers, robots, and retro vibe was intended to bring the brand to a younger audience? Why or why not?

While i was looking at chanels 2017 ready to wear spring collection, i felt like they were trying to  bring in the younger audience because of the choice of colors and style of garments and accessories. The hats are definitely a dead ringer for trying to bring in that young audience because who doesn't wear hats when you are a teenager, even girls like to wear them. The black dress is the best style that they  have chosen for the trend because i feel like girls are going to be wearing that particular style in different colors to. The color scheme just in general for this show is just so amazing because they are the only colors most teenagers wear, i just think they hit their audience that they want spot on.

ELIE SAAB

For Paris Fashion Week i chose to watch Elie Saab's fashion show live on http://fashionweekonline.com/paris, so if you want to go check it out click on the link. I feel like her style is fit for what will actually be worn than what won't be worn because if you pay attention to other designers they tend to make these crazy things which isn't a bad thing but they just won't be worn. i give the designers so much credit because now that i am in a fashion class, i see how much time and effort they put into these and yes most of their pieces will not make it into the trends but they will be worn for something. Elie saab's style is just so chic and fresh, it also has that sense of trendy feel going on because the patterns, colors and fabric she uses will catch a lot of attention especially with the teenagers.

What are hems? How can they affect a garment's appearance?

Hems are like the edge of a piece of cloth or clothing that has been turned under and sewn. A hem can effect a garment a lot, lets say that you are trying to make a pair of pants and you don't hem the bottom of them they can look like the right side of the picture and if they are hemmed they will look like the left side. Hemming is really important because it can secure the bottom and it will look nicer.

I have learned different sewing techniques for hand sewing and machine sewing. One of the techniques i learned for the machine is seam allowance, that is very important because when you are making garments or other stuff, someone will want a certain seam. The different measurements on the machine are 1/4, 1/2, 3/4, 1 1/4, and these other measurements are not on the machine and they are 5/8, 7/8 so you have to use a piece of tape to mark where it is so you don't mess up. Other techniques i know are for hand sewing and they are invisible slip stitch and whip stitch also herringbone stitch. All of these you are going to use for making garments and this takes time, so if you ever decide to try and make something you have to have the patience to learn the techniques and if you mess up you can't get angry because it will show in your work. Now that i know how long it takes to learn and make things i respect the fashion industry a lot more.

london fashion week

While i was watching the London fashion show i observed some of the clothing and i noticed some trends going on. The most i have seen in the show was a faux leather/fur jacket for both men and women. I also seen longer sleeves then usual and i know that is becoming a trend soon. The jumpers are becoming very popular because it is fall and since teenagers are always making things trendy we make them look fashionable.

In this picture of Niall Horan, he is wearing a jumper/sweatshirt. This is probably one of the main reasons why girls today wear jumpers, because of one direction. also because it looks very cute and adorable on him so we buy things like that because we want to be like them and be cute.

community service

Community service is important because it helps you gain skills such as collaboration, communication, creativity and critical thinking. When i was on the field trip to go to the annual quilt show in Morgan hill, you were always doing something. yeah we got breaks but we were really busy helping out, i think it was a good thing because it taught us how to think fast (critical thinking) when we had to figure out to set something up when it didn't work the first time. Communication is also one of the skills we needed to have to because we are always moving and we might need something so we really need to be listening which is what i did on the field trip. Collaboration is key to most things and that is the main thing we used before going to the field trip, to get the supplies we needed on to the bus we all had to work together because it was a lot of stuff and some of it was really heavy.

we all know that homecoming is just around the corner and girls are buying their dresses. but shhh, we all know we are really going to homecoming by ourselves. but anyways the dresses are what is really important. what i seen os really popular, and that is crop top and skirts as the homecoming dress. they are really beautiful and it is what is trending so if you are looking for a homecoming  dress this is what you should look at.

The Harry Potter movies had some fashion going on that we didn't really know about. In the movie you will see the girls uniforms, they have a dress paired with a caplet and a hat. you will even notice that in one of the films, the weasley's wear jumpers that are made by molly.

At the Emmy Awards it is the place to dress better than anyone. It also is where you can show up in the most fashionable trends right now. I noticed a few things in the dresses some celebrities wore, One of the trends is a one sleeve dress or shirt and two of the celebs wore a dress with one sleeve. I also noticed red statement dresses. Okay now lets look at the best and worst dressed at the Emmy awards, in the pic to the right top corner the worst dress is the floral print ball gown because it is not flattering at all and the deep plunge does not help at all. The black dress is actually cute but it doesn't work for her because she is pregnant and it doesn't flatter her. in the bottom right picture this dress is just beyond ugly, the colors don't go the tool has no texture to it and the top, thats a different story like what is the flap supposed to do and why the plunge, this dress is just a disaster. in the top right picture those two dresses are just amazing the sihloutte is nice, the flow is nice and flattering.the picture bottom left, these are amazing or should i say amaZAYN dresses, the dress nina dobrev is wearing is just so gorgeous, the mermaid style and sihlouette is so flattering on her its just awesome and the red compliments her. all the other dresses in the picture are amazing to they just go with them.

Why have T-Shirts been popular styles with teens for a very long time? Do you think this will change anytime soon?

T-shirts have been popular since the 1930's when soldiers wore them as outer wear and took them home. teens everywhere noticed and started wearing them.t-shirts now are still very popular because of the designs and different styles they have. companies have been using the clothing as an advertisement for awhile even bands and singers use the t-shirt. i don't think this will change anytime soon because the t-shirt is a big part of everyone's fashion sense and it is used and worn all the time.

avant-garde fashion was created in the 1920's in japan. it is created with a strsight geometric or shapeless sihlouette. avant-garde describes the cutting-edge, innovative and extragavent flow in fashion. It doesn't fit genral accepted standards. i think that celebrities dress in avant-garde fashion because they want to be different from other celebrities. rihanna actually wore an avant-garde dress to the 2009 americas music awards.

the style

your hair is a part of your style, therefore its a part of fashion. it can add on to the look you are going for or it can help make a statement that you were trying to send out through your clothes. i always do something with my hair, i went from brown my natural hair color to black then i went to purple. purple or any color is going to be risky but i always took the risk of doing something with my hair because i don't want to be the same and follow the crowd. so the style you choose, it doesn't have to be exactly the same as everyone else's and that's why i did something different and i became a trend setter because everyone started doing there hair after i did it.

what i read i feel like NYFW  did something amazing by letting Reshma Quereshi still be in the runway fashion show after her accident. i really think there is room for other types of models on the runway because i feel like there aren't different body figures for every time a model comes out, they are all the same size and i just would like to see different body shapes instead of the stereotypical slim bodies. i think NYFW can be a good place to bring awareness for global issues because almost everyone is watching and if most of the population is watching then it spreads to the rest of the population.

What is a fashion classic?

a fashion classic is were a style will never actually go out of style. like the trench coat she is wearing is a classic because its been worn for a really long time and its still being worn today except with different designs and colors. another one of fashions classics are tuxedos. they have always been in fashion and still are in fashion, yes they have changed over time as you see here with harry styles tuxedo; but the basic tuxedo is still in fashion.
